IHM ROLLS OUT YAMMER NETWORK TO IMPROVE INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

From corporate announcements to employee engagement, a large amount of responsibility falls on the proverbial shoulders of an organization’s internal communications strategy. It’s the cornerstone of any successful organisation – and it’s something that many organisations continue to struggle with. Improving and streamlining communication can be time-consuming and frustrating without the right strategy and tools in place.

 

IHM Southern Africa has grown exponentially over the past year, and with growth comes an array of internal communications issues and gaps between team members. The Communications Department conducted a staff survey to identify what communications channels were no longer working for the organization, what communication gaps existed, and how well employee engagement occurred within IHM. From the survey findings, one of the interventions proposed to address these issues raised was the introduction of a social intranet enterprise to the organization Yammer, in June 2017.

Yammer is a private social enterprise which allows team members to connect with one another, share information across teams, and organize around groups. The Yammer platform has been rolled out to users within IHM headquarters, regional teams and team members within our Zambian offices. Staff members have created virtual working groups, they are able to update the entire organization on activities they are working on, and share pictures of workshops or conferences they are attending. The Human Resources department has used Yammer as an onboarding platform and is able to introduce new employees to the rest of the group. Some departments have utilized the platform to host virtual meetings in the private group functionality.

The rolling out of Yammer has helped the IHM team to work smarter by working together. We would like to hear what tools are used in your organization to drive internal communication and employee engagement.
